IBS Syndrome
A common disorder that targets the gastrointestinal tract is IBS syndrome. IBS is actually known as irritable bowel syndrome, and is a chronic condition that affects both males and females of any age. But the usual onset of the syndrome is actually from 15 to 40 years old.
When it comes to symptoms, the most common are both constipation and diarrhea, which can occur alternately. Oftentimes, these bowel movements come with abdominal pain, especially in women. This should not be confused with the menstrual cramps women have during their periods though. To ensure that this is weeded out accordingly, you have to consult your physician regarding your symptoms.
IBS is actually known as a functional disorder, though the reason behind this remains unclear. There are actually no disturbing signs that can be observed in the bowel, in spite of the fact that there are changes in the stools excreted. There are also observable change when it comes to the quality of the bowel’s functions. Another sad fact about IBS is that no known cure has been developed to eradicate the syndrome from one’s system effectively. All that has been developed are medicines that can just alleviate the symptoms of the disorder. Still, this is better than nothing. Another good thing about IBS is that it does not increase the chances of a person getting cancer. This claim is supported by research as well.
Medication and diet are effective in dealing with the symptoms of IBS. When it comes to medication, you have to be wary about the medicines you take in. You would not want to take in medicines that would just worsen your condition in the long run. Thus, do not administer treatment for yourself. You have to take the time to consult your physician regarding the medicines to take. This way, the proper medication can be prescribed.
When dealing with IBS, changes in both diet and lifestyle just might be in order. For dietary changes, it’s also important to check in with your physician, so that the proper diet plan can be formulated for you. Remember that IBS comes with both diarrhea and constipation. Thus, different food items should be included, to ensure that both symptoms are dealt with accordingly.
There is also a need to eliminate stress from your lifestyle when you are afflicted with IBS syndrome. Stress can do so many negative things to the normal body system. Of course, it is quite hard to eliminate stress from one’s life completely. Still, you owe it to yourself to have a healthy body. Thus, find ways and means to take care of it, and rest as often as you can.
